Over three weeks from June to July 2026, TRANS FSC (Bukit Timah) collaborated with Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) students to engage elderly residents in the Farrer Road community.
Each session brought together five students, three staff members, and 7 to 11 senior participants. Together through activities, they worked towards a shared goal: strengthening social connections and empowering residents to play a more active role in reviving the kampung spirit of their neighbourhood.
The activities for seniors were designed across four domains of wellness: physical, social, cognitive, and emotional. A number of senior residents also stepped up as community connectors, supporting the sessions and helping with outreach efforts.
Seniors who took part wanted to age with dignity while continuing to lead purposeful, meaningful lives. For one caregiver, watching her father engage with other seniors during these sessions brought a sense of reassurance, knowing he was spending his time meaningfully, while also giving her a few hours of much-needed respite from caregiving demands.
Participants spoke fondly of the variety of activities and the time spent connecting with fellow seniors. It served as a reminder of how community has a way of bringing people back together.
