East Region Practice Work Group

Since its formation in April 2025, the East Region Practice Work Group — made up of partners from TRANS Family Services (TFS), YGOS, Montfort Care, THK and PPIS — has been meeting every two months with great energy and purpose. Each session has been a space for us to align our visions and practice directions, and prepare for the upcoming regionalisation of the sector. Together, the agencies have been openly exchanging insights, challenges, and ideas to strengthen services in the East.

At our latest session on 13 November 2025 hosted by TFS, the TRANS FSC (Bedok Reservoir) team — together with the Practice and Service Development team — shared their project on key considerations in developing services and programmes. They also led an engaging activity where representatives from each organisation added their own on-the-ground experiences to shape a shared set of considerations that truly reflects the needs and hopes of the communities we serve.

We also heard a thoughtful presentation from the Marine Parade FSC team on how they approach needs assessment. It was an invigorating afternoon of learning, reflection, and collaboration. Together, the work group is developing practical guidelines to inform service and programme development for the East region in the coming year.

A big thank you to all our partners for your passion, commitment, and teamwork!

On 30 March 2026, TRANS Family Services celebrated Social Work Day to honour the people who make our impact possible. The event featured a panel sharing of overseas learning experiences, alongside activities that encouraged creative and out-of-the-box thinking. It aimed to broaden perspectives grounded in social work values and inspire more innovative approaches to practice. Appreciating and investing in every member of our team — frontline and administrative alike — is not just a once-a-year occasion, but a commitment we carry forward in how we can best serve our community.
In celebration of Chinese New Year, our 37 Happy Healthy Hour (H3) seniors welcomed 47 Kindergarten 2 (K2) students from MOE Kindergarten @ Fengshan Primary School for an intergenerational craft activity. In pairs, the seniors and children worked hand-in-hand to decorate the Chinese character “福” (fortune) using crepe paper and glue. Seniors had the opportunity to guide and interact with the children while engaging their fine motor skills, and the children explored their creativity and practised expressing their ideas with confidence. As they discussed colours and designs, the room quickly filled with laughter and conversation. The session created a heartwarming opportunity for both generations to connect and celebrate the festive season together.
The tween years can be a time of growing independence, new emotions, and changing family dynamics. At TRANS Family Services (Bukit Timah), our recent groupwork programme, “Meaningful Connections: Parents and Tweens”, brought parents and their children aged 9–12 together to strengthen their relationships and navigate this stage with greater understanding. Through 6 sessions, parents learnt ways to better manage their children’s emotions and behaviours and build stronger parent-child connections. Many parents shared valuable takeaways, including the importance of connecting before redirecting. At the same time, children discovered how they could regulate their emotions and communicate their thoughts and feelings more confidently. The groupwork ended with a joint parent-child session, where families engaged in meaningful conversations and activities, including writing heartfelt letters to one another. Following the successful completion of the groupwork, the team is excited to continue supporting families through more programmes aimed at strengthening family relationships.
