Meaningful Connections: Parents and Tweens Groupwork

The tween years can be a time of growing independence, new emotions, and changing family dynamics. At TRANS Family Services (Bukit Timah), our recent groupwork programme, “Meaningful Connections: Parents and Tweens”, brought parents and their children aged 9–12 together to strengthen their relationships and navigate this stage with greater understanding.

Through 6 sessions, parents learnt ways to better manage their children’s emotions and behaviours and build stronger parent-child connections. Many parents shared valuable takeaways, including the importance of connecting before redirecting. At the same time, children discovered how they could regulate their emotions and communicate their thoughts and feelings more confidently.

The groupwork ended with a joint parent-child session, where families engaged in meaningful conversations and activities, including writing heartfelt letters to one another.

Following the successful completion of the groupwork, the team is excited to continue supporting families through more programmes aimed at strengthening family relationships.
